Due to safety fears

Pink Floyd star Dave Gilmour has cancelled shows at Venice’s St Mark’s Square after the stage was found to be unsafe.

The gig on Friday (August 4) was called off hours before Gilmour was due to hit the stage.

In a posting on his official website, the guitarist wrote: “Just before the sound check of today's planned show in the Piazza San Marco, Venice, a structural defect was discovered in the scaffolding, rendering the whole structure unsafe. Therefore, regrettably, the shows scheduled for today and tomorrow cannot go ahead.”

The concerts have been rescheduled for next weekend and tickets valid for the rescheduled dates, the BBC reports.

According to the Italian newsagency ANSA, officials discovered that one of the columns supporting the stage was slightly angled and so unable to hold the weight of the stage equipment.

The ex Pink Floyd guitarist is due to play Gdansk in Poland on August 26.
