ROCK OPERA!

No, we're really NOT making this up...

ROCK OPERA!

Pink has shocked the pop community with the news that she is currently writing an opera.

The 24 year-old singer says she has always been a secret classical music fan and is now working on her own rock opera.

"I trained classically. I would do rock opera for sure. I just started, kinda, writing one now. But it's really hard," she told the Sydney Morning Herald, adding: "A lot of people have done it and really sucked and I don't want to do a rock opera and have it suck."

The singer has also wowed director Penelope Spheeris, who claims Pink is the perfect choice to play rock legend Janis Joplin in the forthcoming film 'The Gospel According To Janis'.

Spheeris told MTV News: "She's got Janis' spirit, and sometimes I even think about reincarnation, I swear, because it's so close to home. I know that sounds weird, but I think about that when I look at the work that [Pink] can do."

Pink, who covers Joplin songs in her live shows, fought off strong competition from Brittany Murphy and Scarlett Johansson for the role.
