A cute tonsillitis forces Brian to quit appearances this weekend...

PLACEBO won't be appearing this weekend at V99 at Chelmsford and Weston Park because Brian Molko can't sing...due to an attack of acute tonsillitis.

Apparently Brian picked up the bug while Placebo were on tour in Australia and was forced to cancel a show in Brisbane on August 15 and rest for a few days.

Since returning to the UK, he has been unable to shift the bug and consequently Placebo have cancelled their last planned UK appearances of this year.

A statement just issued by Placebo's press office read:

"I would like to personally apologise to all Placebo fans who will be attending V99. I have contracted a severe case of tonsillitis and if there was anything that I could do to get myself well and get up on stage I would. Unfortunately the golf balls that have grown in my throat appear to be stronger than my resistance. If it's any consolation, I am very depressed about not being able to see James Brown for two nights in a row. We promise somehow to make it up to you. Be sure to wrap up well and wear a scarf at all times.

All my love

Brian Molko"
