Plan B: 'People will say 'iLL Manors' is horrific'

Ben Drew says there's no point in 'leaving the key bits out' of his East London set movie

Plan B: 'People will say 'iLL Manors' is horrific'
Plan B aka Ben Drew has spoken to NME about his directorial debut, iLL Manors, which premiered in London earlier this week.

Drew took it upon himself to justify the bleak themes of the film, which is set amongst the council estates of East London. Speaking to NME, Drew said:

People will say the film's horrific, but isn't 90% of the shit you read in the newspapers every day, stuff like Baby P?

The musician, whose next album release is the soundtrack to the film, also entitled 'iLL Manors', added: "I don't see the point of trying to tell the full story and leaving the key bits out, because people think it's too gory, or too urban, or not politically correct. It would miss the whole point of why I did this."

The film, which stars Riz Ahmed, Nathalie Press and Dannielle Brent, is a semi-autobiographical tale focusing on six characters struggling against crime and violence. iLL Manors is scheduled for release into cinemas on June 4, with the soundtrack set to follow on July 16. Plan B will play a tour of the UK forests this July, playing a total of seven shows.
