Portishead to begin work on new album this summer

Geoff Barrow wants to 'bang on and get another record done'

Portishead to begin work on new album this summer

Portishead have announced that they are about to begin work on a new album.

Multi-instrumentalist Geoff Barrow confirmed that the band would start writing for the follow-up to 2008's 'Third' this summer.

"I'm writing for Portishead through July and August," he told BBC 6 Music. "I just want to bang on and get another record done."

Barrow went on to reveal that the Bristol group had signed a new record deal, saying: "It's with a major. It's with the biggest record company in the world. It's with people we trust, which with a band is the most important thing.

"We did the 'Third' record, it did incredibly well. We got very little support from the UK as we don't represent a certain demographic of people, but we did Coachella [festival] and that was amazing."

At this point an album title or release date have yet to be announced, although fans will hope that they don't have to wait 11 years, as they did in between the band's 1997 self-titled LP and 2008's 'Third'.
