BAN THE BOMB

PRIMAL SCREAM’s eagerly-anticipated new album looks set to be banned in the States – for featuring their controversial song ‘BOMB THE PENTAGON’, NME.COM can reveal.

The song, a bitter attack on US foreign policy, was premiered live just before the September 11 tragedy when terrorist hijackers crashed planes into both the World Trade Centre in New York and the Pentagon in Washington.

Afterwards, the band spoke of their "numbness" at the prophetic nature of the song, and bassist Gary 'Mani' Mounfield said the band were "mortified" at the scenes of horror that have followed the "great tragedy" in New York and Washington.

When asked how it felt to have had only recently played the track before the attack on the Pentagon, he said: "I feel pretty numbed by it. It's a very strange scenario to find myself in. We're in a position where we could get fucking lynched man, so I don't know." At the time, the band would not comment about whether the title of the song would be changed or if they would ever even play it live again.

But now, NME has learned that a version of the track will be on the band’s new album, which is due out this summer and is as yet untitled – meaning almost certain blacklisting in the States.
