Primal Scream have hit out at the X Factor after their 1994 single 'Rocks' was covered by one of the show's contestants.

The track was performed on Saturday (October 22) by contestant Frankie Cocozza as part of the reality show's "Rock Week" theme, but the Scottish rockers were clearly unhappy about it.

Writing on their official Twitter account Twitter/Screamofficial, the band wrote: "Sorry to hear 'Rocks' was used on 'X Factor'. We don't endorse this." They also responded to a question from Lily Allen about the song's use by writing: "We weren't happy about the use of 'Rocks'."

This is the second time in recent weeks that the band have complained about the use of 'Rocks' after they slammed the Conservative Party for using the track at their conference. On that occasion though, the band turned out to have been misinformed as the actual track used was The Dandy Warhols' 'Bohemian Like You'.

The band have recently said that they intend to record and release a new studio album next year and have "a lot of new music" written for the follow up to 2008's 'Beautiful Future'. You can watch an interview with the band from this summer's Bestival by scrolling down to the bottom of the page and clicking.
