‘3121’ shoots straight to the top
Prince has achieved his first ever number one debut in the US this week with his new album ‘3121’.
The LP has sold 183,000 copies Stateside, shooting the record straight to the top of both the Billboard 200 and the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts.
The 1991 album ‘Diamonds & Pearls’ was the star’s last appearance on the R&B/Hip-Hop chart and this week’s result brings Prince’s total Number One albums to four, following in the footsteps of 1984’s ‘Purple Rain’, 1985’s ‘Around The World In A Day’ and 1989’s ‘Batman’.
According to Billboard, the soundtrack to Disney’s ‘High School Musical’ fell to Two in the US album charts and James Blunt’s ‘Back To Bedlam’ dropped to Three, but tops the Top Rock Albums countdown for a fourth, non-consecutive week.
