Prince is set to play an "open press soundcheck" at London's Electric Ballroom tonight (February 4).

It is thought that the artist will reveal the dates of his upcoming UK tour at the appearance. The event follows a strangely secretive press conference which took place earlier this evening at singer Lianne La Havas' house in east London.

Prince's manager Kiran Sharma tweeted after the event, writing: "Just finished w the most amazing press conference I've ever been to! 2 songs by @3RDEYEGIRL. THANK U @liannelahavas 4 being a generous host!". She went on to say that the event saw "questions explored" and acoustic versions of Prince songs played. She wrote:

She then announced that Prince and his team would be moving to the Electric Ballroom in Camden. At the time of writing a queue had already formed outside the venue, where a security guard confirmed to a Channel 4 journalist that a Prince gig was set to take place inside.

The US singer is expected to announce a series of shows promoting 'Plectrumelectrum', the first album by 3rdeyegirl – his new band. The plan is for Prince to play iconic venues in and around London and he chose La Havas' house as the first.

La Havas and Prince struck up a friendship during her tour of America in 2013. Speaking to Time Out about Prince, she says: "He heard my music, somehow, two years ago and decided he wanted to meet me. So after a show in New York, I went to Paisley Park, Prince's studio outside of Minneapolis. We listened to music and had crudités and tea. He had PG Tips. It was surreal."

Late last year it was rumoured that Prince was planning to embark on a UK tour in 2014. The shows will mark the first time he has played multiple UK dates since since 2007, when he appeared for 21 nights at London's O2 Arena.
