The official MOBO Awards aftershow party was shut down on Wednesday night (October 20) after a huge brawl broke out at Liverpool's Hilton Hotel.

Police believe gatecrashers gained entry to the event, which Professor Green performed at, forcing it to close down three hours earlier than planned at 1am (BST).

Eyewitness Johnny Collins told liverpooldailypost.co.uk: "We were in the VIP area and the music just stopped. About 40 people came running in and glass bottles were being thrown. I'd heard that earlier in the night some people had stormed the stage when one of the acts was performing, and the trouble had escalated from there."

He added: "I saw one guy and he was being pelted with glasses. It didn't seem real, I've never seen anything like it. We walked into the main room and there were two girls pulling each other's hair and there was blood on the floor."

Six police vans and ambulances were stationed outside at venue as officers with dogs attempted to restore order.

A Merseyside Police spokesman said: "A number of aftershow parties were held in Liverpool city centre, including the official
public aftershow party at the Hilton Hotel. This event became overcrowded. As a result, licensing powers were utilised to close the bars in the hotel."

Paramedics treated six people for injuries following the incident.

A spokesman for the Hilton Hotel added: "Unfortunately there were two incidents reported during the event where the hotel's security team worked closely with police to resolve in a swift and effective manner."
