Public Enemy record to be auctioned off

The rights to live album could be yours

Public Enemy are auctioning off the rights to a live album.

The 24-track live set was recorded in Helsinki, Finland, during Public Enemy’s 1999 tour.

It features Chuck D and Flavor Flav performing versions of ’Fight The Power’, ’Bring The Noise’ and ’911 Is A Joke’.

The decision to auction off the album follows the settlement of a lawsuit that dates back to 1992.

The sale follows the ruling in 1999 when Public Enemy frontman Chuck D and producer Hank Shocklee were ordered to pay PPX Enterprises over $100,000 in back royalties, attornies fees and accounting costs, over failure to pay royalties.

Wendy Chou, of intellectual property firm Ocean Tomo, told Allhiphop: “It’s not actually Chuck D that’s selling the album. PPX owns the rights, title and interest and ownership in this album. Chuck D does not own this album. The person who wins the bid or who buys the album will receive the digital master recording, the original artwork and all associated rights.”

The rights are to be auctioned off by Ocean Tomo on October 26.
