Puff Daddy to receive honorary degree
Rapper will receive special honour at Washington DC's Howard University next month (May)
The rapper will return to the Washington DC university, where he studied in the late 1980s, to deliver the 146th Commencement address on May 10 and collect his honorary degree in humanities. The rapper, real name Sean Combs, is among five people who will receive honorary degrees on the day.
Speaking about the decision behind inviting Combs to speak, Howard President Wayne Frederick said: "We are honoured to have Mr Combs serve as our speaker. He sat in classrooms where our students sit, walked 'The Yard,' and like many students, his entrepreneurial spirit was sparked at Howard. We know he will inspire our class to work hard and to always strive for excellence."
Combs was named hip-hop's biggest moneymaker in 2013. He came out on top of the Cash Kings list of the highest-paid stars in hip-hop after raking in an estimated $50 million (£31.2 million) over the course of the year, with his financial success attributed to the launch of his Ciroc vodka brand in addition to his record label Bad Boy and Sean John clothing line.
The rapper had already been named the richest star in the hip-hop world by Forbes in March of the same year, due to his overall fortune of $580 million (£382 million).
