Pulled Apart By Horses have spoken in depth about the recording of their second album 'Tough Love' and revealed its full tracklisting.

The band will release the album on January 23, with the album's opening track 'V.E.N.O.M' released as a single a week earlier on January 16. You can see the artwork for the album by scrolling up to the top of the page and clicking.

Speaking to NME about the album, bassist Rob Lee said of how it differs from their self-titled debut: "This album is a lot more direct, we're better musicians and songwriters now. On the first one, we weren't that good as musicians, but now we've been touring relentlessly and we've got to be better players. We made our debut ourselves and it wasn't ambitious. This feels more like our first proper album and not just something for self–gratification Every song on this album has its own personality and really stands on its own".

Lee also spoke about how the band had moved on from their debut and in particular, moved away from their lengthy song titles like 'I Punched A Lion In The Throat' and 'I've Got Guestlist To Rory O'Hara's Suicide'.

He said of this: "The first album was a lot more carefree and a lot of the song titles were, not a joke, but certainly based on our sense of humour. A lot of the titles and lyrics were just in-jokes, but on this album we wanted to be more a lot direct and certainly more serious. We wanted to ditch the puns on this album"

The bassist also spoke about working with Foo Fighters/Pixies producer Gil Norton and revealed that the band were shocked he even agreed to work with them.

He said of this: "Working with Gil was great, we were really surprised he agreed to work with us actually. We only jokingly asked the label at first, but then they got in touch with him and it turned out he liked us and he agreed to do it. He's got this ruthless reputation and he worked us really hard. He came and stayed with us during pre-production in Leeds and kind of became one of the band. We learned to trust him completely and he really helped hone the songs."

Lee also said that Pulled Apart By Horses were inspired to work with Norton after hearing his work with the Pixies and Foo Fighters.

Lee added: "'Doolittle' is one of my favourite records and he managed to give it a real atmosphere. 'The Colour And The Shape' is by far my favourite Foo Fighters album and that's got a great atmosphere too. Hopefully we've managed to get a bit of that on 'Tough Love'."

Pulled Apart By Horses will play a UK tour for February 2012. The band will play 10 shows, which kick off at Glasgow King Tuts Wah Wah Hut on February 13 and run until February 23, when the band headline London's Electric Ballroom.
