PULP TO QUIT RECORD LABEL

Band says "no, ta" to renewed contract...

PULP TO QUIT RECORD LABEL
PULP are to quit record label Universal/Island Records after their next album, NME.COM can reveal.

The Greatest Hits package, scheduled for an autumn release, will be the band’s last with Universal/Island. They are rumoured to be negotiating a new deal with another label.

A spokesman for the band said they were keen to "avoid the suspicious flannel" which usually accompanies such splits. "They are attempting to be as straightforward as possible about events without boring the arse off everyone".

He added: "The option for the band's next (fifth) album with Universal/Island was pretty expensive (record contracts being structured with ascending advances). Island proffered a re-negotiation and Pulp said 'no, ta', preferring to walk away".

Pulp play at the Eden Project on July 5, the Reading leg of the Carling Weekend Festival on August 23, the Leeds leg on August 24 and
Glasgow Gig On the Green in Scotland on August 25 . A big event in autumn is also in the pipeline.
