Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker has said he adopted his trademark lyrical style after he had an epiphany after falling out of a window.

Cocker was speaking after it was announced that he is to release his first ever collection of lyrics in book form. Titled Mother, Brother, Lover, it's set to come out in October. You can see the video interview with publisher Faber by scrolling down to the bottom of the page and clicking.

Asked how he came to find his trademark writing style, Cocker said: "My breakthrough came when I stopped trying to be profound and started writing about normal things. That was precipitated by an accident where I ended up falling out of a window and being in hospital for about a month. I really did come down to earth."

The singer added that he felt inspired to publish the lyrics after re-learning them for Pulp's comeback shows. He also said the reason he'd never felt the need to publish anything before is "because he's lazy."

Cocker also revealed that he has called the collection Mother, Brother, Lover because it is his most frequent set of rhymes. He said: "The number of times 'Mother, brother, lover' gets used as a rhyming scheme is embarrassing."
