Pulp's Jarvis Cocker lends his support to the Occupy movement

Cocker has called the global movement against social and economic injustice 'visionary'

Jarvis Cocker of Pulp has given his support to the Occupy movement.

Speaking in The Big Issue via Digital Spy, Cocker said that the strength of the global movement lies in the fact that it doesn't have a leader. "Much is made of the fact the Occupy movement doesn't have leaders, and this is sometimes depicted as a failing. It is actually one of its main strengths," said the Pulp frontman and solo artist.

He continued: "We are over leaders. We are not interest in ideology anymore - we just want things to work properly and fairly... Occupy shows a new way. Whether you recognise it or not yet, it's what you want."

Cocker went on to call the movement against social and economic injustice 'visionary' because "it recognises that it's the cult of the individual that got us here, and so to escape from this situation is going to require collective action."

Pulp have been confirmed to play this April's Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, California. The band will also reissue their 1983 debut album 'It' along with their 1987 LP 'Freaks' and 1992's 'Separations' next month.
