Imprisoned Russian punks Pussy Riot have found themselves the subject of an episode of cartoon South Park – watch a clip of it above.

The episode, which according to the Wall Street Journal pokes fun at people of rallying behind cause celebres without thinking about what they are supporting, showed Jesus wearing a 'Free Pussy Riot' t-shirt.

"Causes should not be worn on our wrists with a sneer," the cartoon Jesus tells the residents of South Park in the spisode which aired on October 31. "Let’s keep our causes where they belong, which is right here,” he says, pulling open his robe to reveal a 'Free Pussy Riot' T-shirt. "On T-Shirts! Free Pussy Riot!" he shouts to cheers.

Three members of the feminist punk band were sentenced to two years in prison in August after performing an anti-Putin song in a Moscow cathedral. One member, Yekaterina Samutsevich, was released on appeal after her lawyers successfully argued that she hadn't even managed to take her guitar out of its case before being kicked out of the cathedral.

The group's imprisonment sparked a wave of condemnation across the music world with a host of musicians including Björk, Madonna and Paul McCartney calling for their release.
