A new documentary detailing the story of imprisoned Russian punk band Pussy Riot will premiere at Sundance Film Festival next year.

According to HitFix, the documentary, directed by Mike Lerner and Maxim Pozdorovkin, tells the tale of the three Pussy Riot members arrested in March 2012 and the subsequent court case which saw them imprisoned for hooliganism following a protest against Russian President Vladimir Putin inside a Moscow cathedral. The Sundance Film Festival takes place in Utah and will run between January 17-27 2013.

Meanwhile, the jailed members of Pussy Riot have been nominated for Time magazine's Influential Person Of The Year Award. Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, Maria Alyokhina and Yekaterina Samutsevich, the latter of whom has been freed on probation, are collectively up for the prestigious title, one of a 38-strong long-list of nominees.

Also up for the title are such luminaries as Barack Obama, Austrian daredevil Felix Baumgauter, Apple CEO Tim Cook, Fifty Shades Of Grey author E L James, Bill and Hillary Clinton, and the Higgs Boson particle. The only other musicians on the list are Jay-Z and Psy. The winner will be named by the magazine's editors on December 21, while a 'people's choice', based on votes cast on the magazine's website, will be revealed a week earlier.
