Queen guitarist named university chancellor
Brian May appointed to Liverpool John Moores
Former Queen guitarist Brian May has been named chancellor of Liverpool John Moores University.
May, who completed his doctorate in astrophysics earlier this year, succeeds Cherie Booth, wife of Tony Blair, as chancellor of the university.
"I am absolutely delighted to welcome Brian May as my successor," Booth said in a statement. "Brian certainly had a dream and nothing deterred him from achieving his PhD, I am sure that he will be a real champion for LJMU and a tremendous role model and inspiration for all of our students."
May was appointed with a unanimous decision by the University's governing body. He will take over the position early next year.
