Queens Of The Stone Age have sent a fourth letter to a UK music magazine, which eager fans have begun analysing for clues about their forthcoming new album.
The first letter was published in Mojo last December, with further letters in both NME and Uncut during January. The latest message appears in Kerrang!
Possible clues that fans have seized on include the fact that there have been watches or clocks repeatedly featured in the artwork accompanying each message appearing to indicate the number nine. Each letter has also included the number nine in its text, often accompanied by the number six. The new QOTSA record will be their sixth studio album.
The focus on these numbers has led some to speculate that the album could be released on Monday, May 6 or even Sunday, June 9. The messages have also been analysed for potential pointers to the album title. So far, the notes have carried the following headers: "A Stitch In Time Will Save You 9, But..", "You’re Out Of Time, Then…", "Some Things You Can't Fix, So…" and "If You Find..." Fans have speculated that the title could be some permutation of these phrases.
Musicians reported to be involved in making the new record include former QOTSA members Mark Lanegan and Nick Oliveri as well as Dave Grohl, Elton John, Trent Reznor, and Scissors Sisters' Jake Shears.
The text of the most recent note is below:
...SOME THINGS YOU CAN'T FIX SO...
ON THIS RECORD WE CAME TO A REALIZATION: THE BESTTRICK OF ALL, IS NO TRICK AT ALL
THE SONGS ARE A REAL TIME DOCUMENT OF THE MANIC UPS AND DOWNS OF THE LAST YEAR. IT CAN'T ALWAYS RUN LIKE CLOCKWORK. SO RATHER THAN CONTROL THE DIRECTION OF THE RECORDINGS, WE DECIDED TO RIDE SHOTGUN ON OUR EMOTIONAL BANDWAGON. WE EMBRACED OUR EVIL, HELD THE HORRIBLE, LICKED THE LUNACY AND BLEW THE BEAUTIFUL. AS A RESULT, WE'RE ON CLOUD 9.
I CAN'T WRITE ANYMORE CAUSE MY PHONE'S DYING,
QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE"
