The new Queens Of The Stone Age LP has been declared "probably the best rock album by any band in about five or six years" by Elton John.

'...Like Clockwork' was released on Monday (June 3) and is battling Disclosure's debut offering 'Settle' for the Number One spot on this Sunday's UK albums chart. As of two days ago (June 5), the Queens' LP was "only a few thousand copies ahead".

Elton John plays piano and contributes vocals on the album's seventh track, 'Fairweather Friends', and clearly enjoyed the experience. "I've never really played on a record with a rock band like that and for me it was one of the most exciting things I've ever done," he told the Daily Star. "I think it's probably the best rock album by any band in about five or six years."

Meanwhile, the band's frontman Josh Homme revealed that he was impressed by Elton's down-to-earth attitude in the recording studio. "We played for three-and-a-half hours. That's how long it took to get it. Then he stayed for another three-and-a-half hours and he just talked and hung out and bullshitted and stuff like that," he recalled.

Meanwhile, Queens Of The Stone Age have been confirmed for Radio 1 Rocks week, which kicks off this coming Monday, June 10, and runs until Thursday, June 13. The band will perform at London's Maida Vale studios on the first day alongside fellow guests Jimmy Eat World.
