Nick Oliveri reunites with Queens Of The Stone Age for six song encore performance – watch

Bassist parted ways with the band in 2004

Former Queens Of The Stone Age bassist Nick Oliveri reunited with his old band for an encore set following their gig at The Forum in Los Angeles on Friday (October 31).

As reported by Consequence of Sound, Oliveri – sporting a set of devil horns on his head – took to the stage during the Halloween-themed show to perform six songs, some of which had not been played live by the band in over a decade, including ‘Quick and to the Pointless’, ‘Auto Pilot’ and ‘Another Love Song’. Oliveri announced the appearance to NME last month, predicting it would be an “interesting night”.

“Josh asked me to come up and do six songs with Queens, like an encore set. A reunion, but not a reunion. I’m going to get up and play some bass and sing some songs at the end of the show. It should be an interesting night.”

Josh Homme fired his long-time friend from the band in 2004 amid rumours that he’d been violent towards his then girlfriend. He briefly returned in 2012 to contribute vocals on the track ‘If I Had a Tail’. Asked whether the on-stage appearance could be a precursor to him rejoining on a permanent basis, Oliveri asserted it was squarely a decision for the frontman (who in-keeping with the Halloween theme on Friday performed in a priest costume).

“That’s pretty much up to Josh. It’s his band, and when he pulls the trigger on something, it’s up to him. I put myself out there a few different times in the past 10 years at Queens shows. I’d go and see them play and say, ‘Hey man, I’m here! Do you want me to sing a song?’ I stopped asking him after a while, and then he asked me! It’s pretty much just when he wants to do something, these days. It’s not up to me, is what I’m saying.”

He added: “I always put myself out there, and so finally he came up with this Halloween date. First he asked for my band to open up, and I said yeah. Then he got back to me and said: ‘At the end, do you want to do some of the old songs?’ I was like, ‘Sure man! Let’s do it!’ It should be a very fun and interesting night.”

As well as Oliveri, Jake Shears from Scissor Sisters also made an appearance, performing with the band on set opener ‘Keep Your Eyes Peeled’.
