Grammy Awards unveil 50th anniversary plans

Quincy Jones will serve as ambassador

The Recording Academy has unveiled elaborate plans to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Grammy Awards.

The 2008 Grammy Awards ceremony will be held at the Los Angeles Staples Center on Sunday, February 10. Nominations will be announced on December 6.

Several events are being planned to celebrate the prestigious award ceremony's 50th year. Legendary producer Quincy Jones will serve as the official ambassador for the cultural and educational events affiliated with the anniversary.

The Recording Academy also announced the opening of a Grammy Museum slated for September 2008. A 30,000 square-foot facility in downtown Los Angeles will house the museum, which will "explore and celebrate the enduring legacies of all forms of music, the creative process, the art and technology of the recording process, and the history of the premier recognition of excellence in recorded music," according to a statement.

The Recording Academy will also put out an illustrated Grammy coffee table book, as well as a men's and women's fashion collection. A portion of the proceeds from sales of these items will benefit the Grammy Foundation and MusiCares.
