Jo Whiley says she had no idea caller was not real

Radio 1 and Jo Whiley have apologised after a member of staff posed as a phone–in competition caller on her show.

The incident happened during a pre-recorded section of her show on April 20 last year.

Whiley usually presents her late-morning show live, but on the April 20 show part of it was pre-recorded so she could be at the opening of the refurbished Broadcasting House in London with the Queen.

In a statement the BBC said: "A pre-recorded section of Radio 1's Jo Whiley Show on April 20 2006 featured a phone competition in which a member of BBC staff posed as a caller from the audience.

"The incident came to light following the recent publication of further editorial breaches. A number of staff members have been disciplined. We would like to make clear that Jo Whiley was unaware that the caller was not a genuine member of the public. The [B]BBC Trust's Editorial Standards Committee[B] have been informed of this today."

Okay, so Jo Whiley didn't realise that the competition winner was a fake. I'm a little confused here. The show was pre-recorded so wouldn't have been going out at Jo's normal time-slot, Jo would have known this, so was she not a little taken aback that during this recording someone rang in to partake in a competion? Apparently not.

Jo Whiley damn well knows what is/was going on, I see that she is being protected by the BBC.

Reason why.

If she was recording a section of her show in order to be elsewhere at a function then she would know that there are no listeners or audience members.

Then she would know in all certainty that who ever has rung in has been in collusion with her and the producer in order to effect a genuine scam, as the section of show had NOT been broadcast.

Jo Whiley should be sacked, or should play a lot more Frank Zappa, Mother of Invention, Can, Led Zeppelin, Stan Tracey, and Tubby Hayes on her show.
