Radiohead have confirmed details of their ‘club’ tour of the UK and Europe.

The dates in May will be a chance for the band to road-test material set for their new album – the follow-up to ’Hail To The Thief’.

Following the May dates, more shows are set for August, including a previously announced appearance at V Festival in Chelmsford and Stafford.

The group are still working on new songs and it is possible that they will release one as a download-only single around the tour.

In a statement, the band said: “We're excited to be touring again, especially to play new songs to an audience. For the first time, we have no contract or release deadline to fulfil - it's both liberating and terrifying.

“To keep things more fun and spontaneous, we will be playing new songs that are work in progress. We will also be releasing music to download when we are excited about it, rather than wait twelve months for a full blown album release. Music's not just about all-time greats - it's also a document of its time, and we want to be able to put out a song when it feels right.”

The tour visits:

Copenhagen KB Hall (May 6-7)
Amsterdam Heineken Hall (9-10)
Blackpool Empress Ballroom (12-13)
Wolverhampton Civic (15-16)
London Hammersmith Apollo (18-19)
V Festival (August 19-20)
Edinburgh Meadowbank Stadium (22)
Dublin Marlay Park (24)

Support on the May dates comes from Willy Mason. Tickets for the Blackpool, Wolverhampton and London shows go on sale March 25.

Beck will support at the Edinburgh show in August.

This week’s issue of NME contains a world exclusive interview with the band, explaining the thinking behind the dates, playing this year’s V Festival, and what happened when Thom Yorke was asked to meet Prime Minister Tony Blair.
