Radiohead concluded the 2006 V Festival in Stafford with a brace of classics including closer ’Lucky’, Karma Police and ’Just’ tonight (August 20).
Playing the V Stage the band thrilled fans by including their early single, as they had done at the Chelmsford site the night before.
They also played 'Just' which NME readers had voted the song they most wanted to hear this weekend.
The proceedings were marred slightly by a heckler in the audience, to which Thom Yorke angrily responded: “Would you like to come up here and say that?”, adding “You realise you're pushing it, right?”
However the night ended in up beat fashion as the band pushed past the 10.50pm curfew to squeeze in 'Creep'.
Meanwhile on the second stage headliners Kasabian gave Staffordshire a preview of new album ‘Empire’ in triumphant style, playing new tunes including ‘Shoot The Runner’, ‘Empire’, ‘By My Side’ and ‘The Doberman’.
Guitarist Serge Pizzorno told NME.COM: “The best thing about last night was, we opened up with ‘Shoot The Runner’ which nobody’s ever heard, but they still went mental. People are here for a reason. It’s good because I think some people will have gone to watch Radiohead and some people will have gone to watch us. There isn’t much crossover so that’s cool.”
Earlier Jamie T played a set on the second stage with his five piece band, including ’Shelia’, ’So Lonely Was The Ballad’ and ’Salvador’.
Girls Aloud then packed out the JJB Arena playing through their hits including Christmas number one ’Sound Of The Underground’ and ’Wake Me Up’.
“Northern crowds are the best crowds!” Cheryl Cole told the audience, before launching into ’Long Hot Summer’. They also included a cover of the Kaiser Chiefs’ ’I Predict A Riot’.
Meanwhile, Editors played a thunderous set to one of the largest crowds on the second stage, including rousing versions of ’Blood’ and ’Fall’.
