'Lucky'
'Fake Plastic Trees'
'Idioteque'
'2+2=5'

It seems strange that they put anything from Hail to the Thief on a best-of....Talk Show Host is an excellent inclusion though. Seems like a bit of a record company cash-in to me though, not the kind of thing Radiohead themselves would do

Too much shit from Pablo Honey and no 'You and Whose Army' Bastard record label.

This is for Capital FM listening/Heat Magazine readers and would be deemed a disgrace to most Radiohead fans. However, for anyone who has been locked in a dungeon cell in the last 15 years it may be worth a look. All the songs are either their single or the most accessible.....I knew the day would come that they would have to release a Best Of but was hoping the band could refuse because Im a positive they would not agree to this release.Go buy OK Computer and if you love that delve into some others...

Don't you mean "EMI to release Radiohead Best of compilation". Somehow I doubt the band have been consulted over this.

Apr 2, 2008

Hmmm not bad but "Anyone can play guitar" is dreck - if you want something from that period then why not "Killer Cars"? No "Morning Bell" ??? the band liked it enough to record it twice and the "OK COmputer" version's great! Glad to see "Talk Show Host" though - Greatest B-side ever

90jl11 you're a mug httf is their best album. myxamytosis should be on there, so should skatterbrain, i will, where i end and you begin, you and whose army and thinking about you. possibly polyethelene 1&2 and trickster. bin off karma police, creep, anyone can play guitar, go to sleep and you. a muggin idea for a best of anyway.

lucius - there is no Morning Bell on OK Computer.

While I feel it is a record company cash in. I'm not particularly against it because it may help more young people to get into Radiohead who are not the most accessible band in the world. At the moment if you have no idea of which album to buy you may buy OK Computer because it is often viewed as their best, it's my fav., this though itsn't probably as a good an introduction to Radiohead as say "The Bends" is and with a compilation it could give people who don't listen to Radiohead a good overview before they start buying the albums.

A best of by this lot? this will be the shortest cd in history!! whinging art students please rip into me.......

Apr 2, 2008

Okay this was inevitable. But surely is Parlephone wanted they could put out a Radio head B-sides and rarities album...I'd actually buy that and it would seem more of a valuable release and less of a cash in.

all great songs of course, but their random, thoughtless ordering actually genuinely upsets me a bit. If you're going to buy 29 Radiohead songs why wouldnt you just buy The Bends, OKC and Kid A, and hear them as they are supposed to be heard? It dissapoints me that RH haven't intervened, because for me it really rapes their work. Did the box set and bloody pen drive not sell enough?

No Optimistic? I thought that was one of their more accessible tracks. No real Radiohead fan will need this, but overall good song choices. Good intro for someone who doesn't know them.

demetris.ioannides

Apr 2, 2008

why am I the only radiohead fan i know who is completely obsessed with climbing up the walls (among other radiohead classics of course)? It's one of my fav Radiohead songs. Also they should've included Kid A on this. Is it clear whether Radiohead themselves are actually getting any proceeds from this release, as it's clearly not something they initiated.

Backtoreality01

Apr 2, 2008

Why is the headline "Radiohead to release best of compilation" When radiohead would never want to release a best of. It's there old record label that is releasing it, and album isn't just some random songs put together. It 's suposed to be cleverly strucutured in a way that flows nicely from one track to another. A best of just ruins that.

wellduhobviously

Apr 2, 2008

'Anyone Can Play Guitar' was no doubt included as it was a single. The very fact this features 'Creep' is enough to show you how involved the band were in this. If you've any sense, you'll avoid this and the recent cash-in boxed set EMI rushed out to cash in on the In Rainbows buzz.

toon_army9

Apr 2, 2008

All in all a decent collection for a best of, although IMO Karma Police should be replaced by The Tourist

Apr 2, 2008

wheres lurgee?this isnt such a bad idea, for all those casual radiohead fans that know 'creep' and nothing else, this will help them learn more about the bands music and maybe encourage them to go look at the back catalouge. And BTW, making money is what record labels do. If they didnt then bands like radiohead couldnt get signed in the first place. So a 'best of' was inevitable, get over it you geeks (what you expected them NOT to release one?)- and its not like the band are not making money from this as well..... If having 'best ofs' out is an issue then dont sign that record contract in the first place.Anything that helps gets more people into radiohead, and yes that includes 'heat magazine readers' is ok in my book.

Apr 2, 2008

DO NOT BUY THIS ALBUM. THE MONEY WILL NOT BE GOING INTO THE POCKETS OF RADIOHEAD BUT INTO THE FAT CATS AT PARLOPHONE. RADIOHEAD WILL HAVE HAD NO SAY IN THIS WHATSOEVER.

DaveIndieBoy

Apr 2, 2008

Its a strange one cos for a lot of people Radiohead are a bit of a Marmite band - you either love em of hate em...for us who love em, we're gonna already have all the albums and EPs, as for the rest, I doubt they're gonna suddenly go out an buy a Best Of. That said, the completist in me I know is gonna go out an buy it...Will be interesting to see what the album artwork will look like, if as everyone seems to suggest, it doesn't have the blessing of the band...

glimmers_of_hope

A B-Side's compilation would be much more welcome than this collection.Killer Cars,Banana Co, Bishops Robes, Fog, Cuttooth, Mequiladora are all gems.

Ernold Same

Apr 2, 2008

Considereing it's been compiled by EMI record execs ad not the band or fans it's actually not too bad. It introduction for new fans. But "Anyone Can Play Guitar"??.... Surley "Lurgee" or "Blow Out" would have been a much better inclusions. Even "Prove Yourself" or "Stop Whispering" (which was a minor hit in the States) were better singles!!

gergbot

Apr 2, 2008

What are you on about 'lucius', Morning bell wasn't on ok computer, it was Amnesiac and Kid A. And Talk Show Host was for a film, not a b-side. As for the album, its blatent that EMI are scrounging all the money possible they can make from Radiohead before its too late. They released the box set around christmas time, not a best of. Doesn't even have Myxomatosis or You and whose army? I for one won't be buying this album and I don't think any true Radiohead fan should either.

I HATE best of Lps, good point from 'tubzz' quite a good selection for the double collection. but being 1 of the biggest R.head fans this side if the Milky Way thats a bit biased... a tip for anyone who is 'JUST' (geddit) DOH, getting into the band, buy the albums they will BLOW YOUR MIND!!

Apr 2, 2008

Where is 'pop is dead'? Ok it was a naff song but it was cool! and it's not on an album! would have been cool to whack it on this comp atleast! facists!

Neilrd

Apr 2, 2008

I'm glad Talk Show Host is on too, I think Gagging Order should be on there- it's their best b-side imo. They could have used Thinking About You instead of Anyone Can Play Guitar/You. I'm disapointed that Climbing Up The Walls & [an shortened] Motion City Soundtrack aren't on there..they could have easily replaced Exit Music and How To Disappear Completely quite well. Radiohead fans with all the albums can pretty much make their personal Best-Of albums anyway so this is for the newbies/casual listeners

noname1209

Apr 2, 2008

Radiohead are not releasing a best of. EMI are releasing a best of Radiohead. Get yer facts rite.

Lawrance10

Apr 2, 2008

Any proper radiohead fan will have all of these songs anyway (probably two or three times over - live versions, knives out EP etc) but I'm sure this will still be bought en masse by all the people out there who heard Karma Police a few times on MTV2 and read in Q magazine that they should like it. I'd have like to have seen 'thinking about you', 'motion picture soundtrack' and 'climbing up the walls'. But I suppose that's the difference between a 'best of' and a 'greatest hits'.... Oh no, sorry, this is supposedly a best of...

junderwo

Apr 2, 2008

toon_army9 you are bang wrong about swapping Karma Police for The Tourist - that would be like replacing your own mother.

gergbot: Talk Show Host was a b-side on Street Spirit (Fade Out) years before it was used in Romeo + Juliet. General feelings of dismay are felt about Parlophone releasing this, and what's up with the running order? surely some kind of chronology would be a good thing for new fans? If you want to get into Radiohead, buy The Bends and see which direction that takes you. I did, and I haven't looked back.

Alan58

Apr 4, 2008

I think this is a good shot at a "Best of" for newcomers to Radiohead. Tracks like 'Climbing up the Walls', 'Morning Bell, 'Kid A' and 'You and Whose Army would improve it but it's still OK, although a rarities collection would be better, which is where 'Pop Is Dead' belongs!!And gergbot, 'Talk Show Host' WAS a B side (to Street Spirit)...

alex_franz_92

Apr 5, 2008

This was never going to work, was it now Parlophone. Old fans certainly won't buy it because they'll have all the tracks anyway, and new fans won't get the full Radiohead experience with just a list of tracks. Radiohead LPs generally work best as a whole body, and if it's just a collection of famous songs then, while they are all brilliant, they aren't going to have the same impact as a whole LP, heard the whole way through. Any new fans are better off getting The Bends as a great introduction.

I already beat EMI to the punch by creating a custom mix for the purpose of having friends listen and discover Radiohead that not only includes everything on there but another disc and a half full of material (mine's three FULL discs, the last one being a "bonus disc" that I burned only because I kept thinking of so many missing songs, but even at its shorter length I've got 35 songs, 54 with the bonus).Somewhere We Will Meet: The Radiohead Collectiond1-1) 2+2=5-2) Paranoid Android-3) Knives Out-4) Everything in its Right Place-5) Fake Plastic Trees-6) Karma Police-7) The Bends-8) How to Disappear Completely-9) Pyramid Song10) Let Down11) Street Spirit (Fade Out)12) Talk Show Host13) Go to Sleep14) Idioteque15) Creep16) My Iron Lung17) True Love Waitsd2-1) Airbag-2) The National Anthem-3) High and Dry-4) You and Whose Army?-5) Fog-6) Where I End and You Begin-7) No Surprises-8) A Wolf at the Door-9) I Might Be Wrong10) Exit Music (For a Film)11) Anyone Can Play Guitar12) There There13) Optimistic14) Just15) Blow Out16) Lucky17) Stop Whispering18) Motion Picture Soundtrack [edited]bonus-1) Palo Alto-2) Where Bluebirds Fly-3) Sit Down, Stand Up-4) Morning Bell-5) Packt Like Sardines in a Crushd Tin Box-6) Killer Cars-7) Planet Telex-8) Climbing Up the Walls-9) Like Spinning Plates10) Sail to the Moon11) Punchdrunk Lovesick Singalong12) (Nice Dream)13) How I Made My Millions14) Polyethylene (Parts 1 & 2)15) Inside My Head16) You17) The Amazing Sounds of Orgy18) The Tourist19) Life in a Glass House [full length version]

I want to say fuck you to EMI for relesing it by not buying it...but its out 4 days before I see them at Malahide Castle, Dublin and I wanna get as a collectable =( BTW, no Kid A? If there is no Kid A, there shouldn't be The National Anthem, Kid A and The National Anthem work well together. Cant stand to listen to either one of them on their own without listening to the other.

Fascist fans are incredible...Come on, everyone has the right to discover Radiohead... And what the fuck are you complaining about compilations? They exist since the beginnings of music industry...And fuck off with the hypocrisy... how many bands you, and even Thom Yorke, have you been initiated into on compilations and stuff like that? And yes, aphexbin is absolutely right about the royalties.
