Radiohead have said they're "delighted" that Elbow won the Nationwide Mercury Prize last night (September 9).

Despite the fact that their 'In Rainbows' album lost out to the Bury band's 'The Seldom Seen Kid at the London ceremony, the Oxford band have nothing but praise for Guy Garvey's men.

"It's a fantastic decision, I think it's brilliant," bassist Colin Greenwood told Teletext's Planet Sound.

"We've been on tour with Elbow, we've played festivals with them and they're lovely people. They've made a brilliant record with 'The Seldom Seen Kid'. It really couldn't have happened to more deserving people, but most of the shortlist was great this year," he added.

Elbow triumphed against stiff competition from a variety of artists including The Last Shadow Puppets, British Sea Power, Laura Marling and the bookies' favourite Burial.
