The editor of Radiohead fansite Ateaseweb.com has spoken about how the surge of traffic towards his site caused it to crash today (February 14) after the band announced details of their new album.

The Oxford band are set to release 'The King Of Limbs' as a download on Saturday (19), with the amount of traffic on the site giving an indication about the level of demand for information about it.

Ateaseweb.com Editor Adriaan Pels told NME that the site was getting "tens of thousands of hits a minute" this morning as fans frantically searched for more album news.

"I wanted to be ready for the traffic rush, so I tried to get the people who work on my servers to increase the capacity," he explained. "But it didn’t happen in time, so sadly the site went down, it crashed."

Pels said he hadn't had a tip-off from the band about the release news, despite being quick off the mark with the announcement after the band made it public at 9am (GMT).

Ateaseweb.com is up and running again now.
