Chris Ineson at 'Ready Player One' premiere

Ralph Ineson says Finchy from ‘The Office’ wasn’t welcome in ‘Ready Player One’

He also hails the film "an enormous, enormous movie”

Ralph Ineson, who stars in Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One, has said that a reference to The Office character Finchy would not be welcome in the sci-fi film. Check out NME‘s interview above.

The actor is well-known among comedy fans for portraying the sexist sales rep Chris ‘Finchy’ Finch in Ricky Gervais’ mockumentary sitcom. Since then, he’s gone on to land a number of Hollywood films and huge TV shows – including Guardians of the Galaxy, Harry Potter, Peaky Blinders and Game of Thrones.

Now, he’s starring in Spielberg’s latest film Ready Player One – based on Ernest Cline’s 2011 novel, set in 2045.

While speaking to NME, Ineson was asked whether he’d approached Spielberg with the idea of a Finchy cameo – due to the film’s references to popular culture.

“Bit out of date, out at the wrong time,” he replied. “I think we need to keep Chris Finch out of good films like this.”

Elsewhere in the chat, Ineson described his time working with the legendary Spielberg.

“[It was] just the most amazing experience to get to work in intimate little scenes with the greatest living film director,” he said. “Just beautiful.”

Asked whether being involved in one of the director’s projects fulfilled a childhood dream, Ineson responded: “absolutely”.

He added: “It was very strange just to be in his presence, to be honest. I think of the wealth of all his films that I’ve grown up with – it’s just overwhelming to be in his presence.”

Ineson went on to hail the film as “an enormous, enormous movie”.
