The New Yorkers plan ultimate 'Saturday night' record

The Rapture line-up big names for return

New York indie-disco pioneers The Rapture have recruited a host of influential producers for their second album.

The band, whose 2003 DFA-steered debut ‘Echoes’ saw them acclaimed alongside fellow New Yorkers The Strokes and Yeah Yeah Yeahs, earning them a slot on the NME Awards Tour in 2004, expect to release the currently untitled record later this year.

Having spent most of 2005 writing material, the band have linked up with Bloc Party collaborator Paul Epworth and Chemical Brothers producer Ewan Pearson to work on the album.

With these recordings going well, The Rapture have now revealed they plan to head to Los Angeles in April to complete the record with Danger Mouse.

"We're pleased as punch to be working with people as brilliant as Paul and Ewan and Danger Mouse,” declared Rapture leader Mattie Saffer. “We started with a goal of making an album that’s an even happier Saturday night than the last one, and this record is going to be so good that even the engineers get laid off the back of it.”

He added that the band hadn’t chosen to work with the biggest producers around, but were already friends before their success.

“The people we’re working with we’ve know for ages,” Saffer told NME.COM. “In the time we’ve been away our friends became the top producers.”

Saffer also played down rumours of a rift with original collaborators DFA who are not involved with the new album.

“A little bit of shit went down that we both could have handled better, but we’re still friends,” he explained. “I’m sure we’ll work together again.”

The Rapture plan to release a comeback single in August with the album to follow.
