The Kinks legend is still recovering after the incident in New Orleans...

A 25 year-old man has been charged in relation to the shooting of Ray Davies of THE KINKS.

The incident happened (January 4) after a female companion allegedly had her purse stolen at gunpoint. The singer had been out for dinner in New Orleans when a car pulled up beside him.

It is claimed that a man with a gun got out and demanded the woman’s bag. Davies chased the man, at which point he was shot in the leg.

Davies was taken to the nearby Medical Center Of Louisiana for treatment for the injury, which isn’t thought to be life threatening.

As a result police have charged a local man, Jerome Barra, with armed robbery and aggravated battery.

Davies' manager Deke Arlon told BBC news: "He's in hospital but it is not really serious. He should be up and about in a day or so. The message that came back to me was that he is in good spirits."

Police chief Eddie Compass added: "I’m sorry for what happened but Mr Davies showed poor judgement in running after the individuals."

Davies, who was on holiday in the US, was recently awarded the CBE in the New Year's Honours list.

He formed The Kinks with his brother Dave. The band has had a huge influence on everyone from Paul Weller to Blur
with their unsurpassed blending of observation and Englishness, that peaked with 'Waterloo Sunset'.

They are even credited with the invention of heavy metal with the heavy riffing of 'All Day And All Of The Night' and 'You Really Got Me'.
