Razorlight have showcased their new self-titled album this evening (August 19) as they headlined the second stage at the Weston Park leg of this year’s V Festival.

Having released their second record in July, the band have played just one UK show, and clearly revelled in playing their new songs to a large audience for the first time in Stafford.

Including tracks ’In The Morning’, ‘Back To The Start’ and ’America’ - which is being made available as a live download after tonight’s performance - in their set, Razorlight also enjoyed loud sing-a-longs for their earlier material including ’Stumble And Fall’ and ’Golden Touch’.

However it was stand alone single and set closer ’Somewhere Else’ that stole the show, generating a huge crowd sing-a-long.

Early the first evening at this year’s V Festival had got underway at Weston Park with Jam legend Paul Weller providing a strong festival master class to the younger bands on this year’s bill.

Though not enjoying the weather – “It’s a shambles,” declared Weller – the singer powered through the likes of ’Susies Room’, ’Peacock Suit’ and ’ Porcelain God’, plus included ’Wild Wood’ and his first band’s classic song ’A Town Called Malice’ much to the Stafford crowd’s delight.

Meanwhile on the second stage, Manic Street Preachers frontman James Dean Bradfield made his festival debut as a solo artist.

He played songs from his album ’The Great Western’ including the recent single ’That’s No Way To Tell A Lie’.

Mid set Bradfield included a version of the Manic Street Preachers ’Ocean Spray’.

The Manics singer also played a quick version of the PJ Proby classic ’Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head’, and changed to lyrics to :

“You poor fucking soaked people/ Raindrops keep falling on my fucking head/ Why couldn’t I be in Chemlsford instead?”.

He closed his set with a cover of The Clash’s ’The Card Cheat’ saying: “See you next summer with The Manics.

On the second stage The Charlatans played a hit filled set including the likes of ’North Country Boy’, ’NYC (There’s No Need To Stop)’ and ’Tellin’ Stories’ which singer Tim Burgess dedicated to “everyone who lies about their age”.

The Charlatans also played their classic single ’The Only One I Know’ triggering a baggy rave-up amongst the fair sized crowd watching.
