'Mighty Boosh' hope Hawley Arms will 'bounce back' after Camden fire

'The Mighty Boosh''s Noel Fielding has pledged his support to pub The Hawley Arms as it aims to recover from the Camden fire this weekend (February 9).

The north London pub – a favourite with the likes of Razorlight and Amy Winehouse – was severely damaged in the blaze and is currently being assessed structurally to ascertain its future.

Fire swept through the nearby markets while flames lapped at the famous Hawley Arms as 100 firefighters fought the blaze.

Speaking to NME.COM, Fielding explained he was in Camden while the blaze was on.

"I couldn't believe it. To see Camden going up in flames was unbelievable and totally surreal, and watching the Hawley Arms on fire was horrible,” he explained. “I was really panicking, so many of my friends work and hang out there, and it's such a good pub, they have really looked after me this year. I'm just glad everyone got out safely."

The star added he later met-up with the pub’s landlord, and was hopeful the boozer will return.

“I met Doug ( Charles-Riddler) and everyone in the (nearby pub) Lock Tavern later that night and everyone was pretty shocked,” he said, “but it's like a big family so The Hawley will bounce back stronger than ever I'm sure."

Support for The Hawley Arms also came from Razorlight’s Andy Burrows, whose band are also regulars at the north London pub.

Meanwhile six people were injured when a double decker bus crashed into a bridge in north London this morning (February 11) after it had been redirected along the Prince Of Wales Road due to the fire.

The Number 24 route usually goes through Camden High Street.

The crash happened near the junction with Talacre Road at about 0900 GMT.
