Drummer lines-up two new projects after quitting British band

Former Razorlight man Andy Burrows to record a solo album - and is joining We Are Scientists.

The drummer has been in New York with the duo - Chris Caine and Keith Murray - working on songs for the duo's third record, and told NME.COM that he plans to record with them and do his own album this autumn.

Burrows quit Razorlight in March this year.

"There was no plan from me to go solo," Burrows explained, suggesting that his next record will be bigger sounding than his 2007 charity-led solo debut 'Colours Of My Mind'. "I've always been comfortable behind the drums, but I've always written songs too and I had a bunch sitting around, and it dawned on me once I'd left Razorlight I had enough for an album."

For the first time Burrows also explained why he felt the need to leave his old band.

"I’m a fan of Razorlight, but by the end I wasn’t a fan of being in Razorlight," he said, adding there were no hard feelings. He admitted: "I was really pleased to hear that they were going to carry on without me, though. It was good to see the band being positive and moving on.”

As for We Are Scientists, Burrows will play live and record with the band as an "honouree Scientist".

Welcoming their new bandmate, Murray told NME.COM Burrows face stiff compeition for the drummer's stool.

"We were thinking for this record that we'd collect all our drummer friends and have different guys do different songs," explained Murray. "Andy was one of those guys but after he left Razorlight we got together, fell in love and decided to make a record."
