Carling Weekend: Reading Festival on despite flooding

Organisers tell NME.COM weather won't stop 2007 event

The Carling Weekend: Reading Festival will definitely take place - despite some of the site being flooded in recent storms.

Part of the areas used for camping flooded after prolonged rain caused part of the River Thames, close to the site, to burst its banks.

However, with the weather warming up and river levels receding, organisers insist everything looks good for the event, which takes place between August 24 and 26.

However festival chief Melvin Benn has told NME.COM that even should part of the site remain flooded, the event will be on no matter what.

“I’d guess about 25 per cent of the campsite is under water and before long someone will say the festival in danger, so I just wanted to say that the festival will definitely take place,” he explained.

“The water levels are going down but we’ve got loads of plans in place to move the campsites and parking if necessary,” Benn added.

“It's actually the bit of land that’s up for sale, that NME wrote about a couple of weeks ago. With global warming and things like this happening, we’re going to have to think differently in future about what lands we use and how that part of the site is laid out. But just to make it clear, this year’s festival is definitely on.”
