'Anthony Keidis jumped on sound cable' says band spokesperson

Red Hot Chili Peppers' spokesperson has explained to NME.COM why their set was troubled by volume problems last night (August 26) during their headline appeance on the main stage at the Carling Weekend: Reading Festival.

As previously reported on NME.COM, during the start of the band's set members of the audience boo-ed and shouted "Turn it up!" repeatedly, as the sound failed to carry to the back section of the audience.

Today the band's spokesperson has told NME.COM that the problems were caused by Anthony Kiedis treading on a power cable while dancing, during opener 'Can't Stop'.

According the the spokesperson, Kiedis jumped on the cable by accident, causing the problems, and his band responded by cutting their instruments in and out of the song amongst the confusion.

Some audience members had interpreted the cutting in and out as the band performing extended jams, but according the the Red Hot Chili Peppers' spokesperson this was not the case.

After four songs volume seemed to be restored and the band finished their two-hour set free from further volume-related chants from the crowd.

i totally agree!! I bought my ticket for sat instead of sun just to see the chillis close the show. Not only were they on late, but they messed up 'Cant Stop' 2 seconds into it, and then after 1 more oldie, they switched onto their new material which is a BIG NO NO for festival crowds. Not only were there about 10 guitar solos throughout, but Antony kept pissing off the stage, so they were obviously buyin time. Instead of just tellin the crowd there was a problem, they carried on to produce a poor performance. By Playing sum favs at the end of the show, they managed to win back some of my enjoyment, but they still left early. On late, left early, bad song choices and too many stalling moments!! - OVERALL, i wish id bought my sunday ticket instead. VERY DISSAPPOINTED!!

Actually I think The Chili Peppers put in the worst performance of the weekend - well that I saw anyway - it just seemed totally self indulgent to me - and whatever they claim, those extended guitar solo's kept occurring long after the problems with sound had been resolved. Played very few old favourites, which was strange considering this was a festival crowd - shame because everyone else I saw seemed to understand the principle of the "festival set"
