Red Hot Chili Peppers' spokesperson has explained to NME.COM why their set was troubled by volume problems last night (August 26) during their headline appeance on the main stage at the Carling Weekend: Reading Festival.
As previously reported on NME.COM, during the start of the band's set members of the audience boo-ed and shouted "Turn it up!" repeatedly, as the sound failed to carry to the back section of the audience.
Today the band's spokesperson has told NME.COM that the problems were caused by Anthony Kiedis treading on a power cable while dancing, during opener 'Can't Stop'.
According the the spokesperson, Kiedis jumped on the cable by accident, causing the problems, and his band responded by cutting their instruments in and out of the song amongst the confusion.
Some audience members had interpreted the cutting in and out as the band performing extended jams, but according the the Red Hot Chili Peppers' spokesperson this was not the case.
After four songs volume seemed to be restored and the band finished their two-hour set free from further volume-related chants from the crowd.
