The organiser of the Reading And Leeds Festivals has announced plans to give every fan with a weekend ticket a free beer and burger at this year's event.

Melvin Benn, chief executive of organisers Festival Republic, told NME that he is planning on introducing the giveaway for the three day bash on August 24 – 26 because he was unable to reduce ticket prices this year.

He said: "At the end of the day everyone wants a beer and a burger don’t they? So somehow I'm going to do that. Ultimately I'm going to try and get the sponsors to pay for it if I can. If they don't I'll be paying for it myself."

Benn added: "It’s tough for kids at the minute, students and people not working and money being tight. I just want to give something back."

The line-up for this year's Reading And Leeds Festivals will be announced live at 7.15pm (BST) on NME.COM on Monday night (March 12).
