The veterans take Balado to stadium arcadium

Red Hot Chili Peppers brought the first day of T in the Park to an eventful close tonight (July 8).

Playing their first major UK festival since the release of double album ‘Stadium Arcadium’, the LA four-piece packed their set with new songs from the opus.

The played new singles ‘Dani California’ and ‘Tell Me Baby’ alongside ‘Snow (Hey Oh)’, ‘Stadium Arcadium’ itself and ‘Charlie’, of which singer Anthony Keidis commented “a lot of people think this song is about cocaine, but it isn’t.”

After pleasing fans with old favourites ‘My Friends’ and ‘Californication’, the show took an unexpected turn when guitarist John Frusciante played a solo rendition of the ' ‘How Deep Is Your Love?’.

And Flea was on typically exuberant form; joking with the audience: “What’s the difference between me and a blade of grass? Nothing! What’s the difference between a little mouse and the planet Jupiter? Nothing!”

The then encored in style with classic hits ‘Under The Bridge’ and ‘Give It Away’.

T in the Park concludes tomorrow with a headline show from The Who.
