Red Hot Chili Peppers unveil new guitarist during Neil Young cover - video

Josh Klinghoffer makes his public debut playing 'A Man Needs A Maid'

Red Hot Chili Peppers have made their first public performance with new guitarist Josh Klinghoffer.

The band, featuring their new addition, covered Neil Young's 'A Man Needs A Maid' at the 2010 MusiCares Person Of The Year event in Los Angeles on January 29.

Klinghoffer has reportedly replaced John Frusciante full-time in the band, although no official announcement has been made regarding his appointment. He added that he remains on good terms with his former bandmates.

well, i think its great that Klinghoffer has taken over... John Frusciante is my favourite artist of all time, that goes for everything he's done really both with the Peppers and his Solo Career. but for me, Josh Klinghoffer is the only guy who could take over. he has so much fresh musical ability and creativity that the band may need. i know a lot of people slated Stadium Arcadium, but i thought it was amazing. possibly because of the return to form (from a guitarists point of view) of Johnny Fru's playing ie, more solo's and riffs rather than the mellower By the Way Album. but as i said before, as a Chili Peppers fan i am looking forward to hearing the new material even without John Frusciante. i just hope John does a few solo shows around the country in the coming months, that would complete my list of things to do before i die, seeing a Frusciante Solo show. :)Jake Bland

I put money on it that we never hear Frusciante again. You might see the odd photo flying about high as a kite on drugs but we may aswell forget about him. He just wants to be a recluse.

Tell us what you think. We’ll print the best responses in the NME letters page each week.

A huge selection of songs from 'Stadium Arcadium', along with classics like 'Californication' and 'Give It Away' formed a vast part of Red Hot Chili Peppers' headline set in 2006.
