Red Hot Chili Peppers hoping to release ‘super danceable’ new album in the next 12 months

Bass player Flea reveals plans to stage world tour within the next year

Red Hot Chili Peppers bass player Flea has said that the band are about to record a “super danceable” new album that they hope to release in the next year.

Flea spoke about the band’s new album, which will be their 11th studio effort, in a new interview with Rolling Stone.

In the interview, he discussed the difference between the band’s new material and the “feeling out” process with the then new member Josh Klinghoffer that led to 2011 album ‘I’m With You’.

“We had a new guitar player [Josh Klinghoffer] and it was a real feeling-out process with each other,” Flea said. “We didn’t want to play gigs with him until we’d made a new record. This time, it feels a lot better than the last one.”

“We’ve been writing and rehearsing, rolling up our sleeves, getting in the studio and doing it,” the bassist added. “We’re nearly finished writing. We’ll go in the studio sometime in the next couple of months.” Pushed on the sound and release date, he continued: “It’s cool. It’s super danceable, funky shit and some real introspective, pretty stuff. It feels good, man, and it’s fun to play it. I would hope that in a year from now, we have a record out and we’re on a world tour.”

Josh Klinghoffer previously revealed that the Chili Peppers have been working in the studio despite not yet having a producer onboard, amid speculation as to whether regular producer Rick Rubin will be available. Should Rick Rubin not join the project, it will mark the group’s first album without their long-time producer since ‘Mother’s Milk’, which was released in 1989.

In May, drummer Chad Smith also spoke about the early stages of writing the album.
