REM to preview new album through Facebook

REM are to stream their forthcoming album 'Accelerate' through the iLike application, primarily used on social networking site Facebook.

Users of the application will be able to preview the album and share the link with friends from March 24, nearly a week before the album is officially released on March 31.

This is the first time a major act has previewed their music through the iLike medium.

Speaking to Billboard.com about their reasons for embracing the application, the band's singer Michael Stipe said: "I think you can either go with it or sit back and watch it happen, and I would rather be out on the field than in the bleachers."

iLike is also available as a dedicated website and as a sidebar for iTunes.
