Patti Smith among artists who will celebrate their music
REM are set to be honoured by 20 acts at Carnegie Hall in New York next week (March 11).
Patti Smith, Bob Mould, Glen Hansard, Guster and Kimya Dawson are among the acts to take part in the show. The event is the fifth in a series of charity events that have previously honoured the likes of Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen and Elton John.
The night is a benefit for music education programmes for underprivileged youth. 100% of the net proceeds will be given to three non-profits including The American Symphony Orchestra, Church Street School of Music and Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation.
Kristin Hersh, Vic Chestnutt, Marshall Crenshaw, The Feelies, and The DB’s will also perform tracks by the legendary Athens, GA band.
Serving as the house band for the night is Calexico, and more acts will be announced as the event approaches.
