Remy Ma plans to marry in jail

The rapper won't let assault conviction hold her back

Remy Ma has announced plans to marry her fiancé, fellow rapper Papoose, while in jail.

Remy Ma, whose real name is Remy Smith, is serving time in the Rikers Island jail in New York while she awaits sentencing on four charges including assault in the first degree and criminal possession of a weapon. She faces up to 25 years in prison.

"They're much in love," said her lawyer Ivan Fisher of the couple. "They're very committed to each other, and they had intended to marry one way or another."

Approximately 200 weddings are performed each year at Rikers Island, reports the Associated Press.

If the ceremony goes ahead as planned, only two guests will be allowed to attend and the couple will not be allowed to wear rings with protruding gems.

Smith has worked with Eminem and Busta Rhymes, and was nominated for a Grammy in 2004 as member of the Terror Squad.
