A phone dropped and broken by Rihanna has sold on eBay for $66,500 (£39,569.23).

The mobile belonged to the president of the LA Police Commission, Steve Soboroff, who was sat by the singer at last week's Los Angeles Clippers' play-off game against Oklahoma City Thunder. He asked the singer for a 'selfie', but Rihanna dropped the phone and broke the screen. Soboroff then saw the singer a few days later and asked her to sign the phone. "Sorry! I love LAPD. Rihanna" she wrote.

Money raised from the auction will go to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) Foundation, split between the LAPD cadet programme and Los Angeles Police Memorial Foundation, reports BBC News. Rihanna has also made a separate donation of $25,000 (£15,000) to the foundation.

Rihanna is set to record a concept album this year based around DreamWorks' forthcoming animation Home. Jeffrey Katzenberg, CEO of DreamWorks Animation, announced the news during the company's quarterly earnings statement, saying Rihanna, who also stars in the film, will perform new songs.

The film will be released in November and revolves around a group of aliens that hide on earth to escape their enemies. The 3D film is based on Adam Rex's 2007 children's book 'The True Meaning Of Smekday', with Rihanna starring as teenager Gratuity "Tip" Tucci. Jennifer Lopez, Steve Martin and Jim Parsons, who plays Sheldon in The Big Bang Theory, also appear.

It will be Rihanna's first album since 2012's 'Unapologetic', with 2013 being the first year since 2009 she didn't release an album. Despite saying she was taking a year off, she still appeared in various videos with other artists, including A$AP Rocky, and featured on Eminem's 'The Monster' from his album 'The Marshall Mathers LP 2'.
