Richard Ashcroft reveals political element to new album

Richard Ashcroft has explained forthcoming album ‘Keys To The World’ (out January 23) features some of his most political material to date.

Taking about the political climate, the singer-songwriter criticised the way George Bush Neo-Cons had promoted religious conservatism for their political ends.

“There’s a track called ‘Why Not Nothing’ about how the world’s turning so conservative and so religious at the same time,” said Ashcroft.

“I think it’s up to the songwriters to give another side to the coin and my music does that," he added. "It gives another side, it’s not an atheist side but it’s someone saying it that doesn’t necessarily believe in all that.”

Meanwhile the former Verve man has confirmed the following tour:

The dates are: Glasgow ABC (January 20)
Gateshead Sage (21)
Preston Guildhall (22)
London Electric Ballroom (24)
