Thousands of fans attend the funk legend's funeral...
RICK JAMES was laid to rest on Saturday (August 14) in the presence of 6,000 fans.
The funk legend – best known for 1981 hit ‘Superfreak’ – was cremated following a funeral in his hometown on Buffalo, New York, according to the BBC.
At the funeral, James’ cousin Louis Stokes said: "This Buffalo project boy was like a phoenix rising from the ashes to the pinnacle of America’s music world. He took us all on a rollercoaster ride."
A gospel choir and band performed at the service.
Although James had been plagued by ill health, suffering a stroke in 1998 as well as living with diabetes and a pacemaker, the cause of his death is still unknown by coroners.
