Ricky Martin supports fight against human trafficking

Ricky Martin travelled to Cambodia last week to show his support for the fight against human trafficking.

The singer visited rape victims in a shelter in Siem Reap on Saturday, where a teenage girl sang him a song about trafficking victims. The shelter houses 65 victims of human trafficking.

Martin visited the country just weeks after hearing about the issue of child trafficking at a UN Conference in Vienna. The country was called "a source, destination and transit country for men, women, and children trafficked for sexual exploitation and labour" by the US State Department.

Actress Emma Thompson accompanied Martin on the awareness mission, as did several other high profile dignitaries.

"The fact that you have 200 non-governmental groups working in the country on human trafficking is unheard of," Martin told Cambodian officials, according to the Associated Press.
