Ridley Scott to direct Gertrude Bell biopic

'Blade Runner' director reveals what his next project will be

Ridley Scott has revealed that his next project will be directing a biopic about British politician Gertrude Bell.

The Alien and Blade Runner director has enlisted The Constant Gardener writer Jeffrey Caine to work on a script. He will make the film as part of a deal with the Fox studio, reports Deadline.com.

Born into privilege in England, Bell was educated at Oxford but went on to make her name visiting her diplomat uncle in Persia. Leading up to the First World War she became a seminal figure in Middle East politics.

She was influential at the start of the 20th Century in sorting out the borders of Iraq following the fall of the Turkish Empire. She worked in various capacities including archaeologist, diplomat, photographer and spy.

Meanwhile, Scott is currently directing the science fiction epic Prometheus, also for Fox. He has also been developing Gucci, a project that chronicles the dramas within the famous fashion dynasty.
