Rihanna: 'I hate doing product placement' - NME's 10 covers special

Singer tells NME she's not down with branding in her promos

Rihanna: 'I hate doing product placement' - NME's 10 covers special
Rihanna has said that she hates having product placement in her music video promos.

Speaking as one of the 10 cover stars in a special edition of a revamped NME out this week (April 7), the singer said that despite having branded products featuring in some of her videos she is against the idea, declaring she only complies with it due to "political" reasons.

"I hate doing product placement in my videos," she asserted. "I hate it. I think videos should just tell the story of the song. And then with product placement it all just becomes this big ad campaign."

She added: "Sometimes we have to do it, for whatever political reason, but it's never my first choice. I don't like things to be so commercial."

The special covers have been put together to mark the launch of the new NME. The magazine has been completely revamped with new front, features and reviews sections, plus an update for NME's iconic logo.

You can read a digital version of this week's magazine online now.

The 10 covers can be viewed on NME.COM right now and feature the following:

1. Jack White
2. Florence And The Machine
3. LCD Soundsystem
4. Rihanna
5. Kasabian
6. Laura Marling
7. Foals
8. MIA
9. Biffy Clyro
10. Magnetic Man

To celebrate the special edition, Golden Tickets are being hidden in copies of this week's issue of NME. The five tickets will be hidden across the UK and in issues sent out via subscription, and will entitle the finder to two tickets to one of this year's festivals including the Reading And Leeds Festivals, V Festival and T In The Park.
